The menu at this Arts District favorite offers just single-word descriptors: Black (shot), White (latte), Chocolate (mocha). It could all seem a little (OK, a lot) pretentious if the baristas weren't so endearingly eager and smiley. This idyllic LA haunt boasts more than just primo coffee, though. The AVOCADO TOAST is the platonic ideal of the nouveau staple, with fresh radishes, red- vein sorrel, pickled onion, and a poached egg (for a well-worth-it $1 additional charge) showered in chives. An array of foodporny pastries rotate in and out of the case, and consider yourself very lucky if you show up on SPAM KIMCHI CROISSANT day. Blacktop Coffee gets bonus points for hosting the modernist taco truck phenom Guerrilla Tacos every Friday. Morel mushroom and sweet corn quesadilla with a cold brew chaser, please.
