At first glance, Jomon looks like a slightly more happening version of the thousands of small yakitori joints that dot the side streets of Tokyo. But Jomon is the Izakaya experience on another level – a little louder, a bit more communal and meant to be an experience shared with friends. The smoky interior Is tight, convivial and gets you up close and personal with the meat on sticks being grilled in front of you on an open fire.

Jomon serves Hakata style kushiyaki and has a large variety of skewers to choose from. Some of the highlights and go tos? The SUKIYAKI (thinly sliced beef marinated in sweet soy broth and served with egg yolk), BARA (pork belly), HANASAKI NANKOTSU (pork tendons), YOTSUMI (young chicken thighs) and the ZABUTON (beef chuck flap) to name a few.

The food is excellent and the beer and sake selection is solid but rather than either being what makes Jomon stand apart, it's everything in combination that makes Jomon one of Tokyo's favorite izakayas. From its location in Rappongi, Tokyo's main nightlife drag to the reliably delicious dishes to the din and the smoke that fills the space, Jomon promises to get your night of carousing off to the right start.
