You can’t walk more than a few blocks in Taipei without passing by a sign that says 麻辣火鍋 (spicy hot pot) or 刷刷鍋 (Japanese style shabu shabu). At the pinnacle of the shabu shabu world sits Orange - the first to elevate the hot pot genre into fine dining in Taiwan.

Orange, whose name is derived from the the glowing color of its custom copper cookware, currently operates 3 locations in Taipei. Unlike the wannabes that have tried and failed to recreate this high end hot pot experience, Orange has managed to retain its crown by staying true to its core mission: consistently delivering high quality service and using the best ingredients. If imitation is the highest form of flattery, the rampant attempts to recreate this concept have validated Orange’s rise to the top but have not threatened the throne.

Once you take your seat, we aren’t just talking prime WAGYU BEEF. Orange is especially known for its fresh seafood - so fresh we like to call it “sea-to-table”. The HOKKAIDO CRAB, JAPANESE ABALONE or the HOKKAIDO SCALLOPS are all unique showstoppers and we have to mention the full service JUMBO SHRIMP. Yes, the servers will not only help you cook them to perfection, but also masterfully unwrap the succulent meat in seconds right before your eyes. Come on, who likes getting their hands dirty? Don’t answer that.

Don’t forget the signature congee prepared at the end of the meal.  The last drops of the soup stock from your orange pot of happiness are absorbed into the dish. Just make sure you also save room for dessert, as in-the-know locals often come for the Almond Tofu. If you’re feeling especially cheeky, tell them Black Buddha sent you and ask for the Frozen Yogurt, which is a famous speciality of Orange’s sister restaurant across the street, M One Cafe, and it will be specially delivered to your table.

An essential tip:  plan in advance. This spot is a favorite of celebrities and foodies alike - weekend tables can require a reservation a month in advance (1-2 weeks required for weekday reservations).

Come hungry, readied for pampering, and get your slurp on.
